WHAT’S PASSING IN YOUR FACE
Unwilling steps,
Understanding in the first, the last
Your feets not for shallow water;
Then pass the ways in your face.
Looking dreamy, the blue is hurt
Algae embraces the sadness of the rock,
Your rainings won’t be late;
Then pass the clouds in your face.
The heart cuddles, shines the pearl,
Your banks cover your dreams with sand,
The wings of rainbow in deep;
Then pass the birds in your face.
You know, you’ve being waited in some place,
When you are hopeless, comes she quietly,
And will it be the light of Süveyda*;
Then pass the loves in your face.

YÜZÜNDEN NELER GEÇER
İsteksiz adımlar, hani
Anlarsın ilk adımda sonunu da
Sığ sulara göre değil ayakların;
O zaman yüzünden yollar geçer.
Dalgın bakarsın, incinir mavi
Yosun sarılır kayanın hüznüne,
Geç kalmaz hiç yağmurların;
O zaman yüzünden bulutlar geçer.
Yürek sarılır, parıldar inci,
Kıyıların kum örter düşüne,
Derinlerde kanadı gökkuşağının;
O zaman yüzünden kuşlar geçer.
Bilirsin bir yerlerde beklendiğini,
Umarsızken, gelir sessizce,
Ve ışığı olur süveydanın;
O zaman yüzünden aşklar geçer

IN BLUE
Night rounds up,
turns itself
When forgotten, defines its mean
a brunette memory
To far edge of the sky, it drops its voice…
smiles to orange, rose side of the dawn…
a cloud embraces,
spreads the day out…
A cloud in blue…
ŞERİF ERGİNBAY
MAVİLİ
Gece tamamlar,
döner kendini
Unutulduğunda anlamını tanımlar
esmer bir anı
Göğün uzak kıyısında düşürür sesini..
Turuncuya gülümser şafağın gül yanı..
Bir bulut sarar,
genişler gün..
Bir bulut mavili..

PATCHWORK AUTOUM
We were managing to sit back to back,
even in separate islands,
as two spoiled and wild children
who try to put the days side by side,
not one after another,
while listening the autoum’s ballad!
SHINING SIDE BY SIDE
Oh, what a long journey
for this beautiful sun!
we began flying in our rainy days.
You were borned, we were borned… once again:
We’ve given ourselves a smile of deep blue!
the sea is between the earth
and the copper sky.
ŞERİF ERGİNBAY
YAN YANA IŞIMA
Ah ne uzun yolculuk?
bu güzel güneşe;
uçkunuz yağmurlarımızda.
Doğdun, doğduk… yeniden:
Masmavi bir gülümserlik olduk bize?
deniz yerle bakır göğün arasında.
ŞERİF ERGİNBAY
THE FUME
I hung the dawn to my branch,
my life had turned to a breeze.
I was staying in your path until evenings,
in your words, I sheltered.
The places often gone, are that I always returned.
I hung the dawn to my branch, I saw a sea.
After the sea, in that fume I died.
ŞERİF ERGİNBAY
DUMAN
Şafağı dalıma astım, yele dönmüştü ömrüm.
Patikanda akşamlardım, sığınırdım diline.
Hep gidilen yerlerdi, benim durmadan döndüğüm.
Şafağı dalıma astım, bir deniz gördüm.
Denizden sonra o dumanda öldüm.

I’m very proud to accompany the remarkable Turkish poet, ŞERİF ERGİNBAY, my dear friend, by my paintings and translations!…
By means of living in the same wonderful city of ANTALYA and sharing analogous souls, to work together was a pleasure for us!…
I believe that poetry and art go along together enriching each other as in this meaningful collective work…
Crossbred is always interesting and fantastic!… As interdicipliner arts…

PRISON SONG – V / SABAHATTİN ALİ
PRISON SONG – V
Don’t let your head bend down,
Never mind, heart, never mind;
Don’t let your wailing be heard,
Never mind, heart, never mind…
On the outside crazy waves
Come and wash the walls;
These sounds entertain you,
Never mind, heart, never mind…
Hold your face up
Even though you can’t see the sea:
The sky is like a sea;
Never mind, heart, never mind…
When your problems rear up
Throw a curse on God…
You have some more days to see;
Never mind, heart, never mind…
Bullets being fired finish;
Roads being taken finish;
Time being served is finished;
Never mind, heart, never mind…

HAPİSHANE ŞARKISI V
Başın öne eğilmesin,
Aldırma gönül, aldırma;
Ağladığın duyulmasın,
Aldırma gönül, aldırma…
Dışarda deli dalgalar
Gelip duvarları yalar;
Seni bu sesler oyalar,
Aldırma gönül, aldırma…
Görmesen bile denizi,
Yukarıya çevir gözü:
Deniz gibidir gökyüzü;
Aldırma gönül, aldırma…
Dertlerin kalkınca şaha
Bir sitem yolla Allah’a…
Görecek günler var daha;
Aldırma gönül, aldırma…
Kurşun ata ata biter;
Yollar gide gide biter;
Ceza yata yata biter;
Aldırma gönül, aldırma…

THE WOUNDED ANIMALS / AYTEN MUTLU
THE WOUNDED ANIMALS
-I-
we were the heavy deaths on the wings of speed
it was only fear feeding us
in the mouth of the fire we were living the body
we were stepping the skin through the ashes of the fire
we didn’t know after of the night at all
we had forgotten how we loved
our loves were also the wounded animals
we were the wounded animals in our loves
we were exchanging ourself with the others
our faces multiplied on our fewness
we were the others who didn’t know the others
we were too many, did we exist, we assumed
we were a long way, we got tired our voice
we buried our forests in our branches
and slept at the roots of silence
-II-
our roots also decayed in silence
we caressed the snakes of the flesh without touching
we built the ice chateaus in our hearts
in the darkness of imaginary love makings
in the frosty hearts of chateaus
we were kissing the fire on the mouth of the body
we were the wounded animals in our caverns
the tired watchman to our blood was fear
it was fear watching to the house of our blood
we lost the time and got stuck in the moment
the animal inside us is clawing the marble
like a paper tearing its sentence
like a bewildered sentence tearing its paper
we are ripping the slipknots of life out
we have no ego to wear but lie

YARALI HAYVANLAR
ağır ölümlerdik hızın kanatlarında
sadece korkuydu bizi besleyen
ateşin ağzında yaşıyorduk gövdeyi
teni adımlıyorduk ateşin küllerinde
geceden sonrayı hiç bilmiyorduk
unutmuştuk nasıl sevdiğimizi
yaralı hayvanlardı aşklarımız da
yaralı hayvanlardık aşklarımızda
kendimizi ötekiyle değişiyorduk
çoğaldı yüzlerimiz azlığımızda
başkasıydık başkasını bilmeyen
ne çoktuk, var mıydık, sanıyorduk
uzun yolduk, yorulduk sesimizi
ormanları gömüp dallarımıza
sessizliğin köklerinde uyuduk
çürüdü sessizlikte köklerimiz de
değmeden okşadık etin yılanlarını
sanal sevişmelerin karanlığında
kalbimize buzdan şatolar kurduk
şatoların buz tutmuş kalplerinde
gövdenin ağzından öpüyorduk ateşi
yaralı hayvanlardık inlerimizde
korkuydu kanımızın yorgun bekçisi
korkuydu bekleyen kanımızın evini
zamanı yitirdik an’a sıkıştık

FOR THE GOOD SATURDAYS / RAHMİ EMEÇ
FOR THE GOOD SATURDAYS
It’s late
let’s be silent and
let the words take a break
let a new walk that pursuit our words
be installed
let’s read the days we forgot
in order to pass the execution of goodwill
The good Saturdays
are for the breads crumbled for the birds
let the herbs of the mountains we wandered over
be written down in a herbalist’s notebook
and wait for the patients
If we’re going to die green
in order to heal casualties
fallen in mothers’ hearts so be it.
let May come quickly
My voice goes toward the inside of me
in order to be a shelter
for the fatigue of the one
who takes a trip for the good Saturdays
Let those days come
from the towers which bear time, and
let me kiss the information in myself about knowing you
let your beauty on the forehead of the sun be seen

İYİ CUMARTESİLER İÇİN
Vakit geç
susalım da
sözün paydosu gelsin
yaramızın peşine düşen
yeni bir yürüyüş kurulsun
geçmek için hüsnüniyet infazını
okuyalım unuttuğumuz günleri
İyi cumartesiler
kuşlara ufalanmış ekmekler için
aktarın defterine düşüp
sayrıları beklesin
gezdiğimiz dağların otları
Anne kalbine düşen
kayıplara bir şifa için
yeşil ölelim öleceksek
mayıs tez gelsin
İyi cumartesiler için
geziye çıkanın
yorgunluğuna barınak için
içime doğru sesim
O günler gelsin,
zamanı taşıyan kulelerden gelsin de
kendimde ki seni tanıma bilgisini öpeyim
güneşin alnındaki güzelliğin görünsün

HUMAN FIRST / BÜLENT ÖZCAN
HUMAN FIRST
What battle is this, what violence;
This flowing blood in streams…
What is soil, what is flag,
What is homeland?…
The most beautiful homeland is the human heart,
beautifying with love, blooming with hope…
Soil,
Flag,
Homeland…
Human first,
Human first,
Human first!…

ÖNCE İNSAN
Ne bu savaş, bu şiddet;
Bu oluk oluk akan kan…
Nedir toprak, nedir bayrak,
Nedir vatan?…
En güzel vatan, kalbidir insanın;
Sevgiyle güzelleşen, umutla çiçek açan…
Toprak,
Bayrak,
Vatan…
Önce insan,
Önce insan,
Önce insan!…

MY LIGHT HAS GONE / Serif Erginbay -Mine workers and for SOMA-
MY LIGHT HAS GONE
My wife, goodbye, I am running out of light,
My friends dead beside me.
I think I can no longer bring coal-smelling bread.
This is it my children, goodbye.
Mom, Dad, farewell and forgive my any wrong doings.
My light is running out, goodbye …
In the silence of the mine that has fallen inside not on top of me
I hear your voices one by one, I see your faces,
My light is running out, my breath is running out, I know,
Slowly, I am being buried into the dark heart of the earth.
My light went out. Now, I am going…,
Ah, now most of all, I wish you know,
How much I miss the clouds, the trees and the sky.
My light went out… Goodbye. My friends gone already.
Now, I am going too.
SERIF ERGINBAY
NY Daily News wrote: “SOMA, Turkey — Women wailed uncontrollably, men knelt sobbing and others just stared in disbelief outside a coal mine in western Turkey as rescue workers removed a steady stream of bodies from an underground explosion and fire that killed at least 232 workers. The fate of more than 100 miners remained unclear in one of Turkey’s worst mining disasters.”
Now, the death toll is 301. And it is still believed there are more people trapped in the mine. Those are possibly the illegal workers.
I just want to translate a poem written 4 years ago, probably related to another mine disaster in Turkey, by Serif Erginbay. I hope the poet forgives me for any loss in the deep meaning of his poem during translation.

IŞIĞIM SÖNDÜ
-madencinin son mektubu-
Karıcığım hoşçakal, ışığım azalıyor,
Yanımda ölü arkadaşlarım.
Artık kömür kokulu ekmekler getiremeyeceğim sanırım.
Buraya kadarmış çocuklarım, hoşçakalın,
Hakkınızı helal edin; anacığım, babacığım.
Işığım azalıyor, hoşçakalın..
Üstüme değil içime çöken ocağın sessizliğinde
Tek tek seslerinizi duyuyorum, yüzlerinizi görüyorum,
Işığım azalıyor, soluğum azalıyor, biliyorum,
Yavaş yavaş dünyanın kara kalbine gömülüyorum.
Işığım söndü, işte gidiyorum..,
Ah, en çok da şimdi, bir bilseniz
Nasıl da bulutları, ağaçları, gökyüzünü özlüyorum.
Işığım söndü.. Hoşçakalın, arkadaşlarım çoktan gitti,
Artık ben de gidiyorum…

Schmetterlingsflug
